Default Installing Brembo brakes on early xk8 and xj8 cars

I have a 1997 XK8 coupe in need of better brakes.
I could not find anyone who makes adaptors or reliable info.
Here is what I did: 1997 To 2006 non 20” wheel xk8 xkr xj8 xjr
I fabricated adaptor plates to locate the 2005 xjr calipers on my existing mounting tabs. I had to have new braided brake lines made up at a local speed shop. The original rotors are 12” the 2005 xjr are 14”. I read some posts that they make no difference, but I assure you , they make a great difference. I still have to install the rears. They should be a direct bolt on with the 05 rotors 13”
Here are some pictures.

Wouldn't it have been easier to find an XKR hub and use that?

Hey thanks for the informative thread. I have a 2002 XKR with the standard XKR brakes and I am planning on upgrading to the Brembo's. I have access to a 2002 XKR-100 parts car and I have the calipers, rear back plates, and front rotors. Since the donor car is a 2002, I believe the calipers will bolt up without modification unlike yours that came off a later car. Just had a couple of questions:

1) Do you know of anyone good to send the calipers off to for a rebuild? The car sat up for 6-7 years and then was in a flood and spent 3 days underwater, so I assume the calipers need a rebuild.

2) What brand of rotors are those that you got and where did you get them? I will need two rears and they don't have to be brembo's but I would like the cross drilled ones.

3) I need brake lines and if you don't mind me asking what did your speed shop charge to make them? If I don't go that route, where can they be purchased?

Thank you so much,

Rob

So bottom line I need :

1) Calipers rebuilt
2) Stainless brake lines
3) Rotors (preferably cross drilled, but can be aftermarket)
4) Pads front and rear

If anyone can suggest where to get these, I would appreciate it.

Can you detail what calipers you have (what car they are from)?

You will have to tap the "eyes" to hold the calipers and obtain the (4) bolts, too.

Check brakeperformance.com for rotors/pads
Welsh Ent also has Jaguar rotors

The calipers were removed from a 2002 XKR-100 and they are the silver/gray ones with red "Jaguar" lettering and I can send pics later if helpful.

Thanks for the other info.

Option: Ceramic Premium Pads (#PE-08100;05921) ($0.00)
Quantity: 1
Sets: Front & Rear (4 Wheel Brake Kit)
Color: Black
- 2002

Hi, resurrecting an old thread here.

Has anyone else done this now? I can see the adapter that corryvett used and I can make a template when I pull off to do my suspension work. A question though, to those that have done this, did the 355mm discs work? I can get 355mm for the 1999 xkr but just wondered what others had done on this.

What else did you find useful to know?

I am currently doing this to my X308 XJR. I have the 355mm discs, and I am going to make the brackets and the like and fit it up. I'll let you know if 355mm works, as the S-type R Brembo calipers were intended for 365mm rotors. However, from a mockup in the attached pictures, the brake pads appear to be no bigger than the rotor surface. The only question is, when it's all mounted up will the caliper be "too" far from the hub and have some of the pad hanging off the OD of the rotor? I'll try to update this thread when I know more. if not it should be as simple as ordering S-Type R rotors. But I suspect it will be fine.

While I have the STR calipers for the rear brakes, as I got all 4 as a package, I dont really want to use the solid rotors. Until I can find some XJR100 rear calipers, I am probably going to stick with the stock-vented rear brakes.

EDIT: Problem solved. I have sourced a set of XKR x100 rear Brembo calipers which I have verified use the same brake rotor as the XJR100

Hey just an update for everyone. Long story short the STR calipers could be made to work, but if you try to replicate what is shown above on an XJR, there are clearance issues with the upper control arm. Its not just the bolt the actual caliper mounting tab runs into the control arm at full lock. So much to the pain of my wallet, I have sourced a set of XJR100/XKR Silverstone calipers with threaded mounting bracket just like the OEM xjr brakes. As for the back I am still going to use the XKR set that I sourced. only real reason I am "mixing" brake calipers is that's what I could get/have for a reasonable price. the only ones listed for both front and rear calipers from an XJR100/XKR Silverstone edition were upwards of 1600, while all told with a set of two-piece front rotors its coming in at about $1,400. moral of the story being, if you want bigger brakes just you're just going to have to splash the cash for XJR100/XKR silverstone brakes with the mounting bracket or the somewhat rare 05-06 XKR brembos which only require taping the front spindles. All of this information is already on this forum but I wanted to put it in one post/thread. I'll post pictures and info when the swap is all done.

Sorry? I'm not sure what you mean. Im doing these brakes %50 for looks and %50 to be more resistant to fade. I don't need or care about stopping in a shorter distance, which i doubt these will do.

Having two xkr's, one with Brembo's and one without,,,,They not only look better, but work better.

Before you use a lot of money on bigger brakes, think of why!
- The looks are worth it - go for it
- I'm into track days and my brakes are getting to hot and fades out - go for it
- I want better brakes that stop the car faster as an extra security in normal traffic - no they will not!

The original brakes on your car are powerful enough to make the ABS starts it work to prevent you from locking the wheels, how can bigger brakes do anything better?
If you want to stop faster you need better tires with more friction against the ground, not bigger brakes.

Yup, I know that! I have better tires and wheels now. I have a set of the Montreal BBS wheels from the XJR100 with some Michelin pilot sport 4s tires all around. Stock brakes were unable to activate abs on anything but a poor road surface with this setup. Not that I got these brakes to stop faster... which they now do. I mainly wanted them for the look and to protect against brake fade. Unlike most, I like to take this car to the mountains near me with good driving roads and have found that the stock brakes didn't exactly inspire confidence when coming down the mountain with a little spirit. Maybe I'm spoiled, as my previous car (Veloster N) had similar size brakes to these Brembos but on a car weighing 3000 lbs flat, so I used to "unfadeable" brakes.
