I noticed a comment recently about insurance photos. I have never heard of this in the UK. Was it required by the insurance company or just a fall back to prove condition in case of theft or total loss.

Some insurers require this as terms of offering certain coverages, like Agreed Value or Stated Value coverages. Agreed Value is popular when a vehicle may be worth substantially more than the standard book value due to being in extremely good condition or other reasons. Typically they want photos to prove you just aren't overinsuring. I've heard things for some mods coverage although my Volkswagen has $2k in coverage and they only need receipts if I ever need to claim it.
When I had a Triumph GT6 and later a Corvette at Haggerty, they had photos for my Agreed Value Collector Car policy. They required other stuff too, like proof of insurance on other cars of a maximum age or younger for daily drivers for everyone on the policy. Basically to prove you weren't going to NEED to daily drive your collector car, as you agreed not to.

Don't think that quite applies in UK as you specify the annual miles you will do , They can check via the MOT recorded milage and what's on the clock when you crash it.

Here if the car is 25 years old or older you can get collectors plates / insurance but only if the car is unmodified. If you want that insurance you must supply photos of the car to prove all parts except exhaust are original.

So that's an American thing not applicable in UK but could be handy if its written off and you want to push the compensation up.

I have mine on value-agreed as described by 80sRule, which requires photos and an independent valuation every three years.
It's ideal for me, but I guess the accompanying mileage limitation will be a deal-breaker for many.

MHAMILTON, what a story! Mine was exactly the opposite, I bought a 2006 VDP at an auction for $ 1,950.... after a year of repairs, including a complete paint job I have poured almost $ 20K on this thing, which I love to drive by the way. If I were you I'll buy it back and think about repairing it. In my case the cosmetics were the less problematic things to solve. But take into account that a good paint job could get up to $12k if not more. Other option is to keep it as a spare parts donor for the "new" one and sale some parts through ebay.
