I have 1999 Jaguar XK8 with only 31k original miles. I recently inherited it. It runs great, when initially starting it after it’s been sitting for a while it fires right up and drives great, and then if you shut it off to go into the store or something and then go to start it back up, it’ll crank over, start, and then immediately die. CEL comes on for the Charcoal Cannister. If you give it gas after starting it and hold it for a second, it’ll eventually idle fine, and continue to run fine. Any help on how to fix this situation is greatly appreciated. I have 0 knowledge on Jaguars but with it only having 31k miles on it, I definitely wanna figure the issue out.

 

I would change the engine temperature sender ,This has a big effect on fuel and running..Make sure you get the right one with a green connector. You need to be looking at jagrepair.com .I dont think we have charcoal canister in UK .I think its to do with evaporation from the fuel tank. You need a good OBD code reader.

UPDATE.
checked on ebay and we do have a charcoal canister and a canister flush valve but I have not see it unless its behind the liner in the LH front wheel arch to the rear .
I would be more suspicious of the valve than the canister.
