Default Just Missed the Bullet

Do to operator error on my part(key and lights left on) the battery of my '97 coupe went "dead" No problem, put the charger on and wait on hour or so. Battery charged! Lights bright, horn blows, everything happens as it is supposed to, except the starter does not turnover when the key is fully turned. Check fuses A-OK. Try again No Joy Call my "Indy" No Joy, but here is the number of the TOW Co. we use. Have them bring it in. Call the Tow Co. It will be an hour or so.
Lets try again, foot on brake. turn key...Nothing. Sit and ponder. Move the shift lever from Park to Drive and back to Park. Turn the key and it STARTS.
That must have reset something. Much JOY.
Cancel the Tow, Life is good.

Did you disconnect the battery from the car while charging?
As these cars are sensitive to voltage drops! Can cause all sorts of problems.

From a DEAD battery I would either disconnect the battery from the car while charging or at least do a battery reset, after charging .

Sometimes called a 'hard reset'.

Remove the negative battery lead and touch it to the positive terminal for about twenty seconds. The alternative is to remove both battery leads and hold them together for the same length of time.

There's a debate about which is the better option but it doesn't appear to make a difference.

The purpose of this is to discharge capacitors and reset engine management settings to default.

Hi Derek.
I did not disconnect the battery. Just hooked the POS of charger to Pos of battery and Neg to Neg while in the car.

Hello Ron

If strange things/warnings etc.start happening and you suspect the battery voltage may have dropped it is always worth trying the battery/hard reset once the battery voltage is OK, as described by GGG above, first as it may be a cheap cure.

Also a battery in good condition is recommended for these cars, so if you think it is old or not at its best it is a good investment to fit a new one.
