Default Key frequency

It's probably somewhere in the past threads, but I haven't found it... I've bought this XK8, 1998, with two mechanical keys, but no remotes. Three questions a) I assume it should have remote locking available, b)should the mechanical key disarm the alarm (it doesn't appear to, having unlocked the door I have to plunge the key in the ignition and turn it before the alarm goes off) 3) what frequency does the fob operate on, so I can check out items on Ebay with a view to buying one...

All the XK8's have remote locking. The vehicle was originally supplied with:

2 x Master Keys (black headed)
2 x Remote Fobs
1 x Valet Key (green headed)

UK Remote Fobs are 433.92 MHz. US ones are 315 MHz. They are NOT interchangeable.

There's a number of Dealer options can be activated / deactivated on UK vehicles such as passive arming. I suggest you read the Security System Handbook for your vehicle for a full explanation of how it works and the reason you're having to put the key in the ignition within 30 seconds of unlocking the door.

If you don't have the Security Handbook (or any others), you can download from this link:

You really need the series identifying number off the back of an existing fob for the car to be able to identify the one you need. The numbers are in the format LJA 2610 BB for early ones through LJE 2610 BC for Final Series like mine. Without the number, it's a bit of a gamble.

I had enabled the passive arming on my car for a couple weeks. IMHO, it sucked. You can't pop your head in the car to retrieve something you forgot without your keys/remote, etc. Some insurance companies offer discounts for cars that have passive arming but nobody (that I know of) requires you to keep it enabled. ;-)

Hi Desmond ,
Your 1998 MY cay requires a fob with the part number LJA2610BA , avoid any other serial number , some have the correct frequency but won't work on your car , you can easily reprogram the correct remote(s) yourself ,

Hope this helps ,

Nik
