Default Keychain Remote

I have a 1997 XK8, do the keychain remote buttons wear out? Mine works sometimes and sometimes even after many clicks it won't open the truck or turn the alarm off/on. I put a new battery in it and reprogrammed it, but it still isn't reliable.

Take it apart and clean the contact points with the eraser on the end of a pencil.

There is a thread with pics but can't remember how far back it is. Search with Google and you will probably find it.

Hope this helps,

Jim

If an eraser doesn't do the trick they're readily available on eBay at reasonable prices.

Default Keychain Remote

Will one model work on all XK8's or do they operate on different frequencies depending on the car?

Hi Riverrob, on the back of your remote you will see the part number possibly LJE2610BA
apparently they are not all interchangeable.

LJE2610BA is not correct for your '97

You need to get one that has all the buttons the same size. The later ones with larger top buttons and smaller bottom buttons will not work for your car.

If you are in the US, it also needs to be 315 MHz.

The part for your car is LJA2610AA

Here is one of several on ebay: Used Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob Clicker Transmitter for K8597T315 LJA2610AA | eBay

Default WhiteXKR is correct

He's correct, you'll need the four button remote with all keys the same size and marked as LJA2610AA transmitting at 315Mhz as also marked on the back. My '99 only came with one transmitter and one key so I bought two uncut keys WITH transponders for about $25 plus a good used transmitter for $50. The transmitter coded to my car without a problem.
