Default Keyless entry fob...again :)

I know this subject has been thrashed sufficient to cause groans from long term members...but this particular point I have not found in my many attempts at searching previous threads. I know it may well be there somewhere, but I haven't come across it yet.

The question I have is this...since I only received one key and fob with my 2000 XKR acquired this past summer, I want to have a back up set. Assuming I find a good used or new fob, in the process of programming it, do I need to reprogram the existing fob?

So far as the key itself, I think that it is clear that I have to have a qualified locksmith both cut and program it...true?

Thanks in advance.
B.

Yes, you need to program all of the fobs together, even if the old one is already working.

Also, be sure you get the correct fob. The fob style changed after the 2000 model year, and the newer ones are not compatible with your car.

+1 on the fob.

YES - the topic has been thrashed on the forum but it's still probably the No.1 issue for buyers of used Jaguars.

Fobs can be DIY programmed but keys need dealer level diagnostics.

Several US members have reported finding locksmiths who can both cut and program new keys.
