Love Hate relationship
Ive read on the forums that Xk oiwners have a love/hate relationship with their cars. I drove my xkr to the Carolinas for the game this weekend. It was about 600 miles round trip. I loved every minute of it. There was also a thread that asked who thought the Xkr was worth the additional money and up-keep expense. I didnt have an answer then, but after this road trip, I definitely think so. Love it. Nothing but love!
Never before have I owned a car that made me smile just walking up to it, never mind driving it. Even working on it is more pleasure than pain, even when just doing routine maintenance.
Was getting on the freeway today and had a newer Jag coming up fast behind. A little blip of the throttle and a big grin later and I'm in the number 2 lane with a big grin on my face. Sometimes it's just the little things but it kind of set the tone for the day. Just the feel of power when I needed it, a nice roar and the sense of envy from the folks I passed.
The love / hate thing is tied to the occasional malfunctions - often electrical related. It's one thing if you have a real ticket new one , quite another when its out or warranty and the diagnostics can be very complicated.
It is ' just a car' and anything can be fixed. But I haven't had a car since my vintage MGB that I talked to almost every time I get in.
I tell her we will have a good day. No problems. And she's going to run just perfect today.
And yes .....
I'm just a bit obsessed. Lol

Hate???? Never!
Regular readers of this board may remember that I have had my heapin' helpin' of difficulties with my '03 XKR - and I have shared many of these trials with all of us. (I've owned my "R" for 19 months and for 4.5 months total, I have had an un-driveable beauty setting in my shop - in fact she's in pieces a the time I'm writing this) But in Jaguar's defense, I do all my own service and do it at my own pace - mostly in the evenings, after I get home from work.
I too, get a charge just walking across the parking lot toward my car, the look, the lines.... So sexy! And I know I'm speaking to the choir... but the way she drives! OMG! I'm a GT car guy at heart. I don't need a slot car like a Porsche 911 - I don't attack autocross tracks and the like, and our XKR positively nails my favorite driving meachine to a tee - powerful, precise, fast and comfortable!
AND not the least of my reasons to stay in love with my Jag....My wife supports my decision to stay with my temperamental automotive mistress - because she loves our "R" too.
You have to LOVE all the things that a Jaguar stands for - And we do!
High Maintenance? Meh! she's a Jag - and I'm up for the challenge.
