Default More RP!

My 2000 suffered from the usual throttle body issues and I had it rebuilt 3 weeks ago by ATE in Tennessee. It ran fine for 500 miles and now has started acting up again:

Occasionally it refuses to drop to 700+/- RPM at idle, but hangs at 1,500.

At speed (50-60 mph) it will hang at 2,000-2,500 RPM, lose connection with the throttle and trip ABS/TRAC warning, then go into RP mode.

On restart it will race to 3,000 RPM and float around there.

Try it again after a minute and it is fine.

No codes.

TB plugs are well seated and clean. Intake is tight, all the usual items are accounted for.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

One clue, that I see, in all that is that the engine will start/idle 1500+ rpm if the ECM has lost the fuel trim memory due to lose of power.

I'll take a look and see what's in memory.

Prior to this problem, when cold it would start and idle at 1,500 for 10 seconds, then drop down nicely to 750. It still does that most of the time.

It seems to run into trouble when underway.

You know the tick-tick-tick sound of the oil injectors firing when you turn on the key? They typically only last for a second or two. Well, earlier today I noticed that they fired continuously while I had the key ON but engne OFF. That's caused by a bad signal from somewhere....

Thanks!

Could be you have a bad coil. My BMW had that type of problem and it took the dealer 2 weeks to figure out it was a coil.

maybe the throttle position sensor? Only way I can confirm that would be to get live readings of the TPS vs the pedal position. Do you have the ability via scanner?
