Unhappy Need Help with XKR

I have a 2000 Jaguar XKR. I was replacing fuse number 7 on driver's side fuse box because interiror light was not working. I put new fuse in , the car started to start by itself, windshield wipers came on, headlights blinking on and off, interior lights came on, alarm on, horn honking loudly over and over. Car smoking inside the car, smelled like a burning computer.Could not shut it off with key so I disconnected battery. The positive cable to the battery was hot and I burnt my hand when I disconnected battery.
Can all this be caused by body processor module? If I replace this will my car be back to normal? Is this something a backyard mechanic can fix?

Welcome to the forum luis69,

I've moved your post from General Tech Help section to XK8/XKR section. Members here with the same model as you have will be able to advise on the electrical issues.

You should add whether you were working on Fuse Box A (Engine Compartment) or D (Fascia - LH):

Welcome to the forum Luis. You have come to the right place to get this sorted out but by the sounds of it, it won't be easy.

To get that kind of heat on a positive terminal then you have a serious problem.

I see from the drawing that F7 in the drivers side fuse box is 15A and supplies the BPM.

I think that if this were my problem, I would start by disconnecting the BPM and have a look inside at the board. With it disconnected, check and replace all defective fuses. Whilst you are doing this, charge the battery away from the car.

Leave the BPM disconnected and then reconnect the battery when charged, positive first. Make sure the connections are tight. Then see if the positive lead gets hot. If not, replace the BPM.

From your description I would say your BPM is fried and causing a massive current drain on the battery for it to get that hot.

Hope this helps, but please post back when you have more info.

There must be something going on besides the BPM to get a battery cable hot.

The BPM is behind the Glove Compartment:

It's a programmable module which means you can't just plug in another one from any XK8.
