Newbe..Just bought 2000XK Not seen yet
Greetings all, I just completed a online purchase of a 2000 XR from a dealer in Phoenix AZ. Have only seen pictures of the car and spoken to the Internet Mgr as to condition. Audi dealership so hopefully guy was a straight shooter.
Car looks great and has 102,000 mi. What should I be looking at and checking when it arives next week? Have never owned Jag before so know nothing about them. Am just in love with the look of the car.
Any assist or information would be appreciated. I have been driving a Cadillac Allante recently and have found the forum there extremely helpfull. Looking forward to scanning this site for info. So far have been impressed with the content. Thanks in advance, Mike

First off, welcome to the forum
Have a read through the FAQ as it covers a ton of great stuff. As far as things to look for, the secondary timing chain tensioners are a big one, the first two generations (yours would be second gen.) were plastic and prone to failure with possibly catastrophic results. The roof hydraulic system is also a bit delicate. All this stuff is covered in the FAQ too. I'm sure others will bring up more things. If you have any other specific questions, post away. Someone on here has probably experienced it and if not, there are people on here who love to troubleshoot.

this forum also has a section for regions -I'd find your region, make a few posts and meet some owners in your area. Find a decent dealer (hard to do) and get them to do an inspection. Around here the dealers charge about $150 or sometimes even have coupons for free "'minor look-overs".
Dont get rid of the Cadillac anytime soon...

I agree, at that age, w/o a good detailed service history, you may be having to address some items right off the bat...possible coolant leaks, suspension issues, those timing chain tensioners are a biggie, transmission service (yup, drain, change pan w/ filter and fill her) and if its a vert, you've got the top hydraulics to consider.
A thorough inspection by a jag dealer is good advice. Have them list the 'items of concern', report back, and we'll be able to give you a good idea on their priority to one another.
Don't let that worry you, though the car is of higher age and mileage, expect some input from your wallet (and maybe some blood sacrifice if your a DIYer) to return her to glory, and you'll love her for years to come.

The first thing I always do is look for leaks, and use your nose to smell. You can smell oil and anti freeze. I am assuming the car was detailed and it may be harder to see these things but on this engine you cannot get it all clean, the quarters are so tight. Also it if the engine was replaced with a reman it will have a tag on the block. The tag on mine was located at the firewall passenger side just below the snorkel pipe. I cannot remember if this engine had the nickasil or not. Good luck with it. I was late to this party, could have sold you a 99 coupe, but convertibles are great fun.

best way to get your post count up is to read the older threads, ask any questions you may have, say hello to other new members just like you (we get 5-10 new arrivals each day that post in the New Member Intro area)
Also, we have an off-topic section that has a TON of fun threads to participate in. Mug shots to put your picture up, etc. Just trying to help you kill time. Clean your garage...make some room for the new car, scrub the floor so the cat will have a clean place to rest.

Well, the XK arrived last week and WOW what a machine. I never expected to be this excited to get into a car again. This car is just about perfect, and yes almost off to prison the very first day got a speeding ticket for 59 in a 40. Just a $195.00 trip to the grocery store. Only item of interest is the "low coolant" light come on intermitently for about 15 to 20 seconds. I watch the temp guage and it doesn't move one bit. and the recovery tank never needs fluid. I believe it to be a bad sensor but watch the temp constantly. other than that the car seems to be in very good condition. Every thing works as it should and at $7200 the price was right. When I figure out how to post pics I will as this beauty is destined to be seen. All my adult children have stated their intent on having their turn with it. Love this forum and all the info in contains. Look forward to being an active participant. Just hope I dont need alot of "repair" advice.
