Have a mechanical gem of a 1997 XK8 but she's cosmetically 'challenged'. Replacing bits and pieces and one is the worn out steering wheel. Today, I picked up for $40 a steering wheel (looks right out of the box) off a 2000 XK8 but noticed its controls has the tab switch on the left for the telephone. Will I be able to use this on my 1997 which didn't include a switch with that symbol??

 

I can't think of any reason why not.

Most of the later vehicles have the telephone button on the steering wheel even when there's no telephone fitted. It just doesn't do anything.

I'm pretty cheap and do shop around. A Craigslist find! That $40 includes the airbag
