Default Noise when key is in "ON" position

All,

I have a very loud noise (like a fan) but more whirring from under the hood when the car key is in the "ON" position.

I could not locate the source, but the air filter box is vibrating a bit. The radiator fan is not turning and no belts seem to be moving.

The HVAC is off (when I turn that on, it makes a different, very loud noise).

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Throttle body stepper motor? Intercooler pump under air filter box? I assume you're asking about the XKR.

Sorry, yes, I am asking about the XKR.

Is this normal, i.e. nothing to worry about?

Not sure I have ever had the car just on "ON"

Thanks!

It probably is, hard to say without actually hearing it.

My understanding is that the intercooler pump on an XKR turns on with just the key on, no need to run the engine. It is reputedly located under the air box, so more than likely your source of noise.

If it is that loud, I would check it out in case it is moving some air mixed in the water, or the pump is on its way out. There are supposedly cheaper replacements.
