Not rear bearings, u joint?
Questipn about #1 and #2 above.
Yesterday I replaced brakes and rotors rear. Was able to better view movement at 12 and 6 o'clock. Last week I asked about bearings, found the slop is in the joint (proper name?) That either connects this shaft to wheel or the other side that connects at far end.
Easy to see/ feel wheel side moving harder to feel entire shaft moving, so I suspect the wheel side. Hopefully this is better than rear bearings replacement. Wanted to ask for your help.
Is this a u joint or a cv joint? How hard is it to replace? Think I've got to get this done soon, there's clearly movement at top and bottom of wheel. Solid on passenger side.
Thanks for any advice you can share.
John
Those are the universal joints. It's not unusual to see them fail because the grease fittings are often ignored. But if a universal is bad you should be able to feel play in the shaft when you try to rotate back and forth.
6/12 play is more often the hub bearing.
