Default Oatmeal interior - dash glare in bright sun

.Today I made am discovery, kind of obvious but ttytt if someone else had posted this in the past I would have appreciated it.

Those of us with oatmeal interior have light colored dashboards. I can't tell you how any times I've thought "I'll buy a black dash next car". In the direct sunlight the dash reflects on the inside of the windshield and makes it kind of hard/uncomfortable to see ahead.

Today was one of those days. For some reason I decided to put on my polarized sun glasses. (I hardly ever use them) BAMM - the entire reflection went away! It's obvious, I know all about polarization, i just never thought of it before.

So, simple solution-use it if you choose it.

It took Jaguar several years to work that one out.

Wow I had no idea! Guess I should have been thinking "gotta buy a later model next time. "

Probably hard to visualize if one has the black dash, but it an get really annoying. (Now watch the prices for 1998s dip )

Thanks for setting the record straight.

My Maserati has an ivory interior and the glare was terrible. I had to remove the dash to replace the heater core and in the process dyed the dash top black. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to remove the XK8 dash, but I would be tempted.

A dash carpet/cover should help too.

How about covering in Alcantara fabric. Ferrari is using it on the dash of the new V12's.

What The Hell Is Alcantara, Anyway?

Does it tend to collect dust also? Sounds like leather or vinyl are the best choices, but a flat finish is important.
