At the top of the General Tech forum is a sticky discussing many choices of OBDII readers.

I have looked at that thread but it doesnt say whether a British 98 xk8 can use a OB2 reader. I know the american models can but not sure about the British car...Every site says that british cars didnt use that system until 2001/2002
Any help appreciated from british drivers

I just took a gander on the XKEC club forum (UK based) and I see active discussion regarding OBDII readers being used successfully on ''98s and ''99s.

I've been using an OBDII scan tool on my 2000 XKR and it works great.

Any OBDII scan tool will work to find just generic codes,if you want to look much deeper than that your going to need something like Auto Enginuity with Jaguar Software or Jaguar WDS/IDS.

I know my crappy little AutoXRay EZ Scan 5000 will show the other manufacturer specific codes, like the P1647 I had for a little while. I just had to look up what it meant.

98 XK8. On Board Diagnostics were not mandatory until 2001 in the EU but any car that was also sold to,the US will have OBD from 96.
