Parts quality
I just bought a beautiful, Phoenix red 2000 XKR. I am a fool for a pretty face. It has some issues (of course). I have been doing all of the usual online searching. I am looking at timing kits, water pumps and thermostat housings, and the prices vary wildly on these things. I also know that more expensive doesn't always mean better quality. I want the best quality parts, but hate to buy the wrong stuff and have a problem. Part of me thinks that most (if not all) of the chains are not as good as the factory chains that came with the car. I have not decided how far to go with the timing set (maybe just secondary tensioners for now. The car has about 90k miles.
I am looking for opinions on where to buy these parts. There can't be that many companies making this stuff, so many of these retailers are selling the same parts. I just don't want to make the same mistakes that may have been already made. To not upset anyone, I guess I am looking for positive experiences.
Thanks.

Whenever possible buy the genuine Jaguar branded part from a reputable vendor. SNG Barratt is the best vendor I know of. They carry Jaguar branded parts and sometimes offer aftermarket parts also.

Especially where electrical parts are concerned, buy what manufacturer originally came on the car whenever possible. Usually that’s Denso. Many here have been burned by buying the cheaper (quality) coils, only to have to junk them and buy the Denso’s.

PS : re your thermostat housing;
unlike the XK8’s plastic housing, with the XKR’s it should be all metal from the factory. You shouldn’t need a replacement,
