Default A-pillar airbag sensor removal

Hi All,

I am trying to reupolster my a-pillar but to do this, I need to remove the senor.

It it looks like it was glued in. Do I have to break the part to get it out?

Thanks

I don't have a photo of the A pillar sensor (this is the B pillar on my 2005 XK8) but they have a plastic tab which has to be pressed down to release them.

It would only be glued in if someone has been there before and broken it.

This is what I am seeing. It doesn't look like it was from the factory like this...

NO it doesn't.

The push-in tabs on plastic components are very quick for production line assembly but always a nightmare to subsequently dismantle even when you know exactly where to push to release them.

The metal spring clips like the one in your photo are another joy to disassemble - they have teeth like a rabid dog!

I just finished reupholstering my A-pillar. The sensor mounts with a simple torx screw and washer which holds the sensor against the back of the A-pillar. The plastic which holds the screw breaks easily, and it appears in your case a previous owner (or mechanic) broke the plastic screw housing and then glued it back in. I would just carefully cut the glue with a utility knife to free up the sensor for removal.
