Take a look at this thread for some more ideas...

Mine is in the collage, simply "XK 8" on the Illinois Route 66 style plate.

Mine is PRTYKTY which I had to argue with PA DOT about. They thought I was trying to sneak in some sort of "P*SSY" reference. My other car is STLRCKN. The pursuit of the perfect vanity plate is almost as much fun as the plate itself.

Just make sure folks can figure it out. I wanted something that celebrates the car/brand without being too snooty.

I actually researched Jaguars. I didn't realize they're the 3rd largest cat in the world (apparently strong enough to carry a 150 pound deer up into a tree!), largest cat in our hemisphere. Well couldn't think of anything there so - next step = reseach the word Jaguar.

Found it comes from an ancient indian (Inca, Mayan, Azetec? - not sure) word. Something like "Yaeguar," which translates into "Kills with one leap" - Oh I thought to myself, now that's cool. That's where "Leaper" comes from. The suckers can leap about 30 feet for a kill! [now we're getting somewhere]

They only give us 7 spaces in NJ for license plates.

I tried "Leaper" - no good someone in NJ already has it. OK I thought, this is my 2nd Jaguar, what about Leaper2? - Score! it was available. Made perfect sense to me, liked it better than Growler. So I got that one.

Here's the rub. So far about 3 people in NJ have figured out what Leaper means, one of whom was a 12 year old boy explaining it to his mom. Folks at work actually wondered if I had Leprosy (you can't make this stuff up) or something.

Oh yes, one more peice - further research shows that etemologists (no spell check - the guys who study word origins ) are not 100% convinced that Jaguar came from that ancient indian word either (but it's a great story).

Well good luck on your hunt, Just bounce it off a few folks to see if they get it when you decide.

John

+1 on the advice to keep it simple, and don't pick anything that people would have to look at for more than a second and "get it".

Sometimes people try too hard for these plates, and the whole point is lost.

I also advise to avoid anything pretentious as it turns folks off. In my mind these plates should be for fun, so choose something that makes people smile, not roll their eyes

.

Speaking of pretentious plates, this one was in an article on cars in the Pebble Beach parking lot over the weekend. Don't think you can get much more snooty than this, especially considering it was on a W12 Flying Spur...

Torazen or Thorazine - does it mean something in the 'States? I've never heard of it here in the UK. Is it a drug? OPIUM would be simpler to understand!

It is chiefly used in the US, as a sedative, and zombie creator, in most mental hospitals. They normally give you it or something similar in pill form, but will take you down to the floor and give it to you by syringe, so you don't fall out and hit the floor. I am not telling you how I came across this information, but let's just say it was part of a vacation, when the Navy put me back into the public.......Be cool....Mike

Can't believe you're not considering "Be Cool".

Instead of Torazen or Thorazine, try some variant of cuckoo's nest. Might be more recognizable?

Ok.......Be cool, sounds like a winner. It is what I always say anyway, and folks wait for it, when I leave. My wife and daughter couldn't figure it out either. Now I just have to wait for Indiana to open up the plates again. I guess they are letting people get personalized plates, if they already had one. Thanks for everyone's ideas.....This was kinda fun....Be cool...Mike

Nah - Be Cool sounds like an ancient popstar (trying to be cool!)
I'm not finished - FASTER1 - or the obvious XKCAT - dammit I can't stop now!! What was the name of that stuff - wonder if I can get it on the NHS?
