Default Primary tensioners

Hello!

I got my secondary tensioners changed when I bought the car.
I'm contemplating changing the primaries as well later this year.
Perhaps it's not needed, but for piece of mind I think.
Will change waterpump and whatever else seems worn as well.

Is this a DIY job? I've changed timing chains on my former Espada, taken out the engine on my Maser several times, adjusting valves on my Maser etc.
A rookie on Jags, but not with mechanics in general.

I do not intend to change the chains, only the tensioners.. What is involved then? Taking off all of the pulleys, fans and the front cover? Is it possible to exchange the tensioners this easily or is it a lot of other stuff involved?

Thanks!

There is an excellent pictorial in the FAQ sticky above under 'tensioners'. Everyone says that removing the harmonic balancer is the only difficult issue and that is only because it is so firmly attached.

I just happen to have this bookmarked for when I finally get mine... whenever the right deal comes along.

Got the same problem on my Maser actually. The harmonic balancer on the crank is shrink fitted, which makes it very hard to get on and off.

What would an independent Jag workshop want for this job?
How many hours?

Thanks!

I have heard 11 hours for both the upper and lower. Four hours for the uppers alone but the majority of that work has to be done over again. Primary only is probably a rare occasion.
