My 1998 XK8 Coupe has the same badging (round green/black jaguar badge) on both the bonnet and on the trunk lid. i received a comment today that the trunk lid badge must have been added by a PO since XK8s should only have front badges. My car was built in the 4th qtr 1998.
I've checked around and looked at several images of 1998 XK8 trunk lids....most did not have badging on the trunk lid but some did...can any one solve this conundrum?

I believe the trunk boot badge appears only on 1998 vehicles, at least in the US. It was very short lived.
I did a little more digging on this issue...it appears that XK8s built in the 4th qtr of '98 were the only cars with both bonnet and boot badging. Cars with VINs ending in the mid 20k.

My 1998 XK8 also has a boot badge, it appears a bit odd at first, having been accustomed to the "plain" version of my 2000 XK8. A bit of research confirmed this is accurate for my VIN.

YES - it was an OE factory fit on early cars and for US only.
