Radio (Audio) Wierdness
This (new to me) 2001 XK8 appears to have the stock alpine radio with 8 speakers. Currently, regardless of volume level, I get sound from the two tiny dash speakers, and only one of the triangular upper door speakers (driver side). The two lower (larger) door speakers are silent, and the rear pillar speakers provide just slightly audible (bass only) sound. I tested one of the rear speakers on a friend's amp, and it barely registered sound again, and again only bass reproduction. Any audiophiles, or Jag acoustivolarians out there with helpful inputs? The 3 totally silent speakers are a mystery to me. Additionally, did Jaguar actually put only bass response speakers in the rear pillars? Finally, will the car's value be negatively affected if I upgrade the radio to something with bluetooth and Ipod/Android compatibility?

Not sure this is your problem, but try adjusting the radio settings for fade, bass, treble and SW (subwoofer). These get reset when the battery is disconnected and I know from experience will cause the subwoofers to go too low to hear.
After that, I would check your amp to see if it is connected and working.

I think on the premium sound system the rears are subs only. I got much better sound after I replaced the 2 ways someone in the past had put in. As to decreasing the value, I'd do what I enjoy. The cars aren't that expensive and if you worry save the old parts. I kept my old exhaust system in case the next owner bought it was too loud.
