Default Radio buzz/whine

After I disconnected the stock GPS and installed a Garmin unit while getting power and ground from the stock GPS plug, I'm getting a buzz/whine from the radio, not when the CD player is running.
Anyone else have this problem?
I know the radio and stock GPS were connected to lower the volume when the GPS was giving instructions.
Should I be grounding other grounds in the GPS wiring harness?

It's not uncommon to get a buzz from wine.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Bill, I'm wondering if you are getting an RFI leak from the Garmin or if it's a ground loop issue.

Can you move the Garmin while energized to see if noise changes?

Btw, since the GPS/ volume attenuation connection would affect cd equally I don't see that as a #1 suspect. What I mean is, the cd volume is designed to be attenuated just as the radios is right?

Bill, please describe the noise. Is it related to engine speed? Can you turn off GPS while radio is on? Is it louder with volume turned up?

Yes, it goes up and down in frequency as the engine speed does. It is too fast for spark interference, more like alternator interference of the "Old Days". Seems like we use to attach a capacitor to the alternator to bleed off this interference.
I may reconnect the stock GPS unit just to make sure it goes away and then look at grounds in the plugs to see about connecting them together.

Hey Bill, any chance you bumped the antenna wire to the radio while you were in there? That would explain radio only noise.

Another idea. Instead of putting the old one back, why not just disconnect the new one and see what happens. That would eliminate both connection and or RFI issues caused by the new one. As I type I realize from your description that RFI is very unlikely here.
