Rear Fog Light Use
When do you use the rear fog lights (I know, when it foggy out[sm=smiley36.gif]) Do you use them while backing up or do you use them while driving so others behind you can see you in dense fog or ????
I have turned them on when someone was tailgating me and they do back off.
I was in and out of Holy Lock Scotland many years ago and most of the drivers don't use any lights at all.
Any Brits want to jump in and reply??
Thank you in advance!! [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

RE: Rear Fog Light Use
Hope you don't mind a non-Brit reply
I use mine in dense fog so the idiots who refuse to slow down in poor weather will see me ahead and, hopefully, have time to stop.
As far as front foglamps go, not that you asked, I regard them as more as a "help me be seen" rather than "help me see" thing as well. I've never used any that I thought were that great in terms of increasing visibility.
In the UK do you have the annoying problem of people driving with their foglamps on at ALL TIMES, blinding other drivers, just to look "cool" ? Grrrrr. One of my favorite rants.
Sorry about the hijack
Cheers

RE: Rear Fog Light Use
I always keep a large distance between me and the car ahead. (saves the brake pads) This makes the idiots that are in a hurry to go nowhere mad, so they follow very close to try and make me fill the gap, except traffic always slows in the same spots each day. So I use the rear fog lamps to get the "tail gaters" to back off. They think I am hitting the brakes so they hit their brakes also. Lot's of fun on my dailing commute in Cincinnati Ohio.

Hi
As an ex copBrit now living in France I seem to recall that there are rules in the UK 'Highway Code' for the use of Foglights.
You are not supposed to use them when visibility is good as they blind the driver behind, although some do just to irritate someone who is driving too close.Visibility should be down to a certain level (can't remember what that is) before they can be switched on and it is an offence to use them otherwise and the police can stop you and ticket you if they want to.
Hope this helps

I use mine in heavy, heavy rainstorms, you know when you almost have to pull over because it's so bad. We don't get alot of fog, but once or twice a year I do use the rears. Fronts almost never. The HIDs do extremely well in all situations. I really dislike it when people use the rear fogs when its perfectly nice out...its very annoying being behind them, as they are very bright. I too have hit the rears on tailgaters, though in my case, it didn't help increase their distance.

I only use them in fog or heavy rain when visibility is reduced and ALWAYS turn them off when a following vehicle has come up behind and then matched my speed. Once I know the driver has seen me - off go the fogs.
In heavy traffic there is nothing worse than following mile after mile behind some idiot with rear fog lamps on, especially in the rain.
