I need to replace my rear speakers in a 1999 convertible. I haven't looked at them yet but one makes an awful banging metallic sound so I am sure it is a goner. Are the rear speakers just sub woofers or are they 3 ways? I assume they are 4 ohm speakers and what wattage are they? Any suggestions for replacement will be appreciated.
If you have the "Premium" sound system, you will have little tweeters mounted at the front of the front door windows where the rear-view mirrors are and you will have a separate amplifier in the boot / trunk.
Coupe has one sub-woofer in the centre of the rear shelf. Convertible has two subwoofers - one each side.
Wiring diagram is a little "ambiguous" as it doesn't really specify whether the speakers are "one way" or "two way".

You can just replace the surround foam and the mounting foam and reuse the original unit . You'll have to measure the size and ordering information on their website . Test the coil resistance as it will be different then 4 ohms impedance as a average signal but a value around 3.2 ohms with a volt meter . May be water damaged .
I read the reviews for those speakers and the were unusually good and with your recommendation I ordered them and should have them in another four days. I removed the old ones today and the surrounding sleeve was torn up and separated on both speakers.
I ordered the recommended speakers but the supplier screwed it up so I went with a pair of low profile Earthquake speakers and I should have them by Thursday and I'll update then.
OK gentleman I ordered and installed Earthquake Sound SWS-6.5 Sub Woofers and I am very pleased. The bass is tight and not thumpy. The best part is they are direct drop in replacements. I used the original Jaguar hold down ring and had to install extensions on the wires to add connectors but none of it was a big deal. The cost was $100 but it is a premier sound system so I decided not to get cheap speakers. These speakers are slim design and come in at about 3.5 inches thick but have hefty sound. You could mount these in the door if you needed to. I tried to get the speakers Grzldvt suggested but the supplier couldn't get them to me so I made another choice. The cost was only $12 difference anyway.
Since it took nearly a week to get the speakers shipped in I was able to clean my rear seats while I had them out as well as clean up the area under the seat and around the speakers.
So I ended up on this thread because I thought I needed a new rear speaker for my 2006 XKR Vert. Once I took things apart I found that the connector was just hanging loose. Once connected, the speaker seems to work fine. However, I wanted to add some info on what I found to this illustrious body of knowledge.
There is only one speaker and it has dual 2 ohm voice coils. (pictures below) I have an older 2002-2003 electrical schematic and from the color of the wires I deduce that the wires running to it that are for the rear sub and for the rear mid-range (my schematic says only for the coupe) as well. I've only looked at the left side but expect I'll find corresponding wiring on the rt.
Since I have it apart I'm thinking I might as well upgrade the speakers so I'm looking for suggestions for an upgrade. I am looking at the sub speakers mentioned here. Will they handle the mid range as well?

Reason: add a pic

In both 2001 XK8 and 2004 XKR Convertibles with premium sound, the rear side speakers are not sub woofer onky despite the system only sends them subwoofer signals and there is a separate subwoofer control built into the base treble SW adjustment on the radio head. The speakers when hooked up to all frequency plays all frequency. My 2001 was 2 ohm. Havnt removed the 04 speakers yet.
I just managed to pick up a pair of Kicker CWRT67s as mentioned in these posts. I've trimmed the plastic speaker ring and they fit perfectly. I am, however, confused as to how to wire them. The very brief manual mentions wiring in serial or parallel as per the illustration below. Can anyone guide as to what's appropriate? Mine is a 1999 MY XK* with the premium sound system - the existing sub-woofers were completely shot.

When I was looking to replace my 2 rear convertible speaker. In the end after buying 2 sets of speaker's including Kickers, I was told they would make no difference then may not work under the existing amp in the trunk. It was a must to replace it or money was wasted on the speaker's. So fyi.

Thanks for the feedback. The existing subs were completely knackered - rattling and fizzing like a tired banger - so I had to get replacements and the Kickers were good value. I'll see how they go and I've got a decent Alpine amp to hand so can graft that in if I need to.
