Recall
Service Action S509 - Replace fuel filler cap with revised design.
"Jaguar cars has determined that all 2001 - 2003 model year Jaguar XJ and XK vehicles are equipped with fuel filler caps which may require an increased effort to tighten sufficiently. Audible clicks should be heard indicating that the cap is properly sealed. If you are a recipient of this notice and an owner of one of these vehicles, this letter is to inform you that your vehicle is included in this Service Action and that Jaguar's records indicate that it has not been repaired under the program."
WOW! a new fuel cap!!

Well you've answered the question, it just wasn't the one he asked.
Miami, that is an ancient Service Action that has apparently not been performed on your car. I have noinside knowledge of currentJaguar Dealer or corporate policy, but I have recently read instances where such forgotten details have now come to light. Perhaps someone has decided to identify and reconcile old issues during this period of transition to new ownership. If I was Tata, I'd be making sure that Ford cleaned up all of the messes they were responsible for, which were mandated by NHSTA, before assuming the liability for them.
If you search Roadfly, there is some discussion about owner dissatisfaction with their vehicle's performance after this Service Action was performed. Perhaps "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is the best advice in this case. Factoryjagtech and jag_genius are both current Dealership associates who can better answer your inquiry, and hopefully they will contribute to your request.

We reflashed many 97 xk8s with great success. There were a few that had problems, but it is impossible to determine if they were caused by the reflash, or were people wanting something for free? Ever since ya did the recall, my turn signals stoppd working.
It is your choice to get it done or not. I don't see a problem.
