Default Repairing bonnet/hood badge

This is the (stock) badge I have on the front of my 2005 XKR:

As you can see, it has two unsightly cracks in the chrome part of it. I believe these were caused by some unscrupulous person trying to pry it off.

Anyhow, it is cracked, doesn't stick down flush as it should and generally looks untidy. The problem is that these particular badges (white, checkered flag) are extremely rare and I haven't been able to find one anywhere, despite having a saved search on eBay for nearly 6 months.

My question, therefore, is: if I buy an 'ordinary' badge, will I be able to use the undamaged centre section on my badge and insert it into the chrome part of the new badge? Are all the chrome dishes the same diameter?

I'm not sure about the interchanging of the center pieces, but its worth a try. How about buying any old/new replacement, and try to jack with it first before removing yours...maybe some heat if its got an adhesive to it. You appear to be resourceful, I bet you can find a way. Sizewise, I would wager they are all the same dimensions.

Is this it? Ebay ad...in the UK no less! You sure you're saved search is working..lol

Hey, its the 'center' only, so it appears you can 'transfer' it from one to the other ring.

eBay is blocking your link for some reason ('unable to display in your country'?!) and when I do a normal search in UK eBay, I can't find it Even when I hide behind an IP anonymizer, I can't find it. Are you sure this is a current ad on eBay, or are you having a tease?

Don't think that badge will be much use as it is the insert only and it's your surround thats damaged. Jaguar do have some in stock about £40

Paul, thanks for your offer, much appreciated. The damned French are stopping me from accessing my countryman's eBay ads!!

Racer, I thought Jaguar had sold out of these. I will try calling a UK dealer. If I can get a whole new badge for £40, I'll be happy. Thanks.

XKracer, can the center insert be swapped out with another 'ring'? Have you torn one apart before?

I tried looking again for the bonnet badge I had but I must of binned it, I know it wasn't in the best condition as I threw a few out, all I have are the earlier ones here and they are dfinately not seperate.

I can only assume the newer type are as you can buy the centre, I never really looked?

I tried to repair mine and separated the two parts (centre disc + chrome holder) fairly easily.

I was talking to my Jag dpares guy the other day and I asked on the availability of you badge and he tells me yes, they have loads in stock however they are £60 each.

But as you are a XKEC member it might be worth going through one of there recommended suppliers to get yourself the club discount

That's good news, thanks. Yes, I know they are outrageously priced for what they are, but as is often the case with car manufacturers, we don't really have any choice, do we...
