Rotary switch/transmission spline help

Rotary switch/transmission spline HELP PLZ

Trying to hook up rotary switch today after installation of transmission and noticed the flat part of the spline shaft is toward the ground. From looking at rotary switch and trying to install it it looks like the flat part of the shaft should be facing up not down. I’m unable to install rotary switch. Please help. Any suggestions? Pic below.

Has the spline been installed wrong by the rebuild shop?????

Would someone please give me your opinion as to whether it looks like spline was installed incorrectly from rebuild shop or is there only one way it can be installed? Pic in original post. Please help??????????

I have to ask the obvious. Do you have it rotated to the correct gear position for installing the switch?

Installing the shaft incorrectly is unlikely due to the way it typically engages the valve body.

Yes. I’ve installed rotary switch several times and no issues, but this time the flat part of the shaft is pointing towards the ground and splines at top.
