Default Seat belt holder US spec car

I have an US XK8 2001 imported from the US to NL. There is an error showing with the seat belts and the garage has informed me that I need a US spec component (HJE 7017 AF/AEK), the seat belt holder. Does anyone know why there is a different spec component between a US and a European spec car? We drive on the same side of the road so I am curious why the seat belts should have different components.

The JEPC makes no distinction between US spec and rest of world, only between passenger/driver side.

That part # has been superseded to HJE7017AGAEK, passenger side, sable colour, but doesn't appear to be available new.

Autoreserve has a couple s/h, although they ain't cheap:

Might be worth dismantling the buckle first if you can, as you may be able to fix/replace the switch in there.

I guess you're just seeing the seatbelt icon in the dash?

Thanks.

Yes I am seeing the seatbelt light.
The garage tell me that the seat belt holder left is from a European XK8 and that why it throws an error because my XK8 is European. It sounds like someone tried to repair it with a European part.
This doesn't make sense to me. Maybe they mean someone has put a UK part in, that would make more sense I think.

Cheers

Rishi

Ah - it might be a part from an earlier car (like mine), which doesn't have the 'belt latched' switch/sensor in the passenger buckle, or it may just be broken.

Or, possibly, the donor car passenger seat was 2-way not 3-way (no height adjust), in which case there would be no connector. For some reason, it appears that the switch was only fitted along with the three-way seat mechanism, and only on cars newer than mine. Odd.

Thanks again. The link you sent me to the part covers my VIN so I guess it should do the job. The cost is for the dealer selling me the car. They agreed to fix all problems for the asking price
