With all the crap I am dealing with on the XK right now like transmission and running issues, I go outside last night to relocate the car and the damn door handle cracks on me - with minimum effort I might add!

One of the two hinge points on the handle itself have cracked in half. So it still works for now holding tight on the other side but its clear this wont last for long with side-loading the handle.

Went on ebay for a quick search and of course, the assembly comes complete and of course its friggin' color-matched.

So I am hoping, having never changed a door handle on this car, that the handle mechanism can be removed from the assembly and transferred to my original color-matched door handle body?

If not, I am going to throw a hissy fit ......... lol

 

The handle assembly is separate from the door locking mechanism. You have to remove the locking mechanism to access the handle mounting.
Don't be concerned about the color matching, the color portion of your existing can be swapped to the new handle.
Make sure your existing handle gasket is not cracked or broken. If it is you will need a new gasket for the installation.
