Late to the conversation but being from the state of Kentucky, the "wire" has it but also being from the state of Kentucky I use JAG.

I have to many rocks in my mouth to eloquently get the "u-are" to roll of the tongue. So its ju ju jus just "JAG"

The name Jaguar is derived from the Portuguese for the feline. For Portuguese speakers it is Jag-waar, the same pronunciation style as "iguana" another Portuguese derived word. Ironically, NA speakers are closer to the original.

Jag-u-are, Jagwar, now Jag-u-er. I don't know how many of you have noticed, but Jaguar has been running a lot of commercials lately, and it seems that they have split the baby. The announcer on the commercials pronounces it Jag-u-er, with not a really hard "er", but, most certainly not an "are". Personally, I still refer to it as a Jag.

The correct pronunciation is written on my license plate, and you are ALL wrong. It's JAG-U-AH. The Brits couldn't pronounce a hard R if their life depended on it.

Except that in Portuguese- either Brasilian or European, the J would be very soft, almost a SHH sound.

Maybe Austin Powers got it right with his Shaguar.

When the ladies ask me what I drive, I respond with a wry smile, a small wobble of the head and say, I drive a "****-u-are". Always gets a good laugh, followed by a
a quick "Oh, I love Jags". The conversation always gets better after that.

Try it, you'll like it.
