Default Simple, fast fix for a 2000 xk8 power seat issue

I just discovered a simple fast fix for a problem I was having with my 2000
XK8 passenger-side power seat - not moving back, only forward.

After I checked the fuses and all were fine - I proceeded to check the
actual switch itself in the lower right-hand side of the seat.

The whole assembly came out fairly easily - I disconnected the wiring
harness and examined it very closely.

I noticed that the slider switch would not move back, only forward.

I took apart the switch assembly with a handy micro-miniature star
screwdriver set I picked up from a discount tool store (Harbor Freight).

I saw that the small plastic guide had slipped out of it's groove.

I very simply corrected the position, I also put some lithium grease to
allow for smoother movement, and re-assembled everything and put it back
into the seat.

Everything works fine!

Hope this can help anyone with a similar problem.

I would send pics - if you wish, please let me know.

Thanks for everything!

Yosy

Do you have a quick and easy way to get the switches out? Everything I see talks about removing the seat. Thank!

Hi, In my case - the whole switch housing just popped out very easily by gently pulling it out on an angle from the front towards the rear. (IE-From the right to the left.) It could be that you just have to wiggle or gently pry it out, but it should come out without having to remove the whole seat.

If you like, you can send me some pictures of your seat - and I can possibly show you where to pry out the switch housing.

Hope this helps!

Default remove switch housing

I did an exchange of my driver's side seat-switch column a few month ago. Ok, my seat's are a little bit different ( MY2004 with separate Headrest), but the fastening-hooks should be nearly the same. If the switch-column sits very neat, there's no chance to get it out without at least removing the seat, i think. And of course, the leather should not been scratched :-) In my case i had to disassemble the lower part of the seat.

You have to unlock one plastic-hook at the rear position of the switches and then they can been swung out while pulling back, so that the 2nd hook at the frontside is released. It should be possible to unlock the switches by pushing a small screwdriver through the gap between cushion and leather from the underside of the seat.

I've some pics attached to give a hint.
