So I bought a broken Ja and have some ?'s
Done and ordered from Ken. So whenever he gets the parts here I'll get to tearing down the jag. How EXCITING!
SO I was going to do a writeup but it looks as though ones already been done to the tune of 61 pages

I don't know if there are different companies producing the metal thermostat housings but the independent shop that did a pre-purchase inspection on my XK8 told me he ran into a few that would not seal.
He said the base groove was cut too deep and the "O" ring would not seal because it sat in the housing too far, not making contact with the engine block.

A couple of years ago we had some trouble with the housings, but funny enough, not what you describe. I got lucky with no issue, but a few of our guys had trouble with the screw on caps on seating properly. Haven't had any issues in a couple of years now.
Thanks to Ken for getting those parts in the mail so quick. One day turnaround, now that's amazing.
Would you mind shooting me a price on that aluminum thermostat housing?

I HATE waiting, I have no patience whatsoever....I stared at my jag for at least ten minutes today. I sat in it, put the top down, and if I had a fan I would have set it in front of the car
It's only been two days since I ordered the parts!!
I have the itch, the itch to drive a jag!

Whoo hoo! Thanks Ken the parts got here today!!!
Oh the week is looking up! I'm going to go ahead and guess it's going to take me a week to get this done. We shall see just how good I am....Anone one know what the book says? How much time this should take?
And anyone have any tips for me before I get headlong into it?

Beer, lotsa beer.
Send me a PM with your public email address and I will send you an insurance adjusters material and time .pdf file. Not sure that engine issues are covered.
I did the upper tensioners, while cleaning the engine, in 4 hours and I had never done that before. The lower ones are more complicated so I will give you another 2 hours.

Take a few moments longer and take a few photos and put together a tutorial to help others. If you need help putting it together let me know. I will do all I can to help.
The beer can come later!

You got it, and fixed.
Well, son of a B*&^%.
I pulled the whole front of the car apart today and yanked the timing cover. To my dismay I also found a nice white goop inside the radiator hoses. My ESP tells me it's oil
. However, the oil in the pan, on the timing chains, inside the valve covers, ect. looks just fine... Furthermore, I have good compression... my guess and it may be my blind hope, is a cracked radiator or maybe galvanic corrosion?
Any thoughts?
How common is a cracked radiator on these? Where else could oil be getting into my coolant? "cracked" anything, is not the answer i'm looking for BTW!!
More bad news, my "friend of a friend" didn't come thought with the timing tools either..... guh. Gordo, you've got mail.

Trans Fluid huh, you must know something I don't, care to elaborate? Or are the second set of pipes going into the radiator for a trans, and not an oil, cooler?

Also, Why the big hooplah about the harmonic balancer rotating when removing it? I didn't see a crankshaft sensor at all. moreover, at that point the chains are still keeping everything in alignment so color me confused...
Jaguar put the crankshaft position sensor at the rear, reading the flex plate.
I assume the reason for locking everything down is to assure correct crankshaft/cam timing but I can understand how you can set everything after removing the balancer. Since you already have it off without benefit of the lock down kit, I guess it doesn't matter much now.
The oil cooler in the radiator is for ATF. The engine oil cooler is in front of and separate from the radiator.
Seldom, if ever, hear of a cracked radiator.
