Default speed sensors

today i removed my wheel speed sensors to clean,,,,,,I read a tread outlining the need to check these......my 2000 xk8 has not moved in a few years...(personal medical issues)....I am starting on a journey to get her running.....fuel pump next,,,,then the "gear box failure"

I found the sensors to be extremely dirty....the three contract strips on each sensor were very dirty......I cleaned them and the connections

I likely will replace them.....my question: while searching the replacements i have noticed an extreme gap in the pricing of these sensors.....$25.each up to $200......What does a $200 sensor have that the $25 does not have

thanks in advance

Here in the UK, the OE Wheel Speed Sensor (Part Number LJA2226AA) from Jaguar is 152 UKP. The aftermarket Jaguar parts specialists sell both these and aftermarket equivalents for around 25 UKP. The difference is very appealing. Here's an example from forum Sponsor S N G Barratt with US prices:

The problem is there's a lot of sub standard Far Eastern copies on the likes of ebay. The reputable aftermarket Jaguar parts specialists have done their research and would not risk their reputation selling an inferior product. If you buy from one of them, you can make a saving and get a guarantee.

^^ Agreed. Go with one of the aftermarket wheel speed sensors from SNG Barratt. That is what I did on my now-sold 2005 S-Type perhaps five years ago. It was less than $50 and it performed perfectly....

Just a quick question. Do you need to replace them, that is, are there indications that they are not working? The technology used in those is fairly robust, even and especially for dirt. More often, seems like the front cable(s), especially the left one, are issues if there is an issue.

FWIW, I would hold off on replacing them outright. They seem pretty common, with lots of options out there. When they work, they seem to just work and are pretty durable, generally speaking. The other component that seem to fail more regularly is the wire to them, especially in the front. Those are model-specific and more expensive. Rockauto has the connectors so these are technically fixable, but with exposure to weather and steering, a new part is probably the way to go. I would keep my money for those when they eventually fail.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Check the resistance across the contacts, should be 1 to 1.4 ohm.
