Squeaky Windows
I have a 2001 XK8 convertible. When I raise or lower the windows, they make an aggravating squeak and squeal as the glass rubs against the rubber weatherstripping. Anybody know of a solution or treatment for this annoying problem?
mine just started doing that when it got cold. I'm going to try a good cleaning and wax/polish on the glass, then maybe run a q-tip with a mild detergent on the inside of the stripping.
PROBLEM SOLVED: The squeak was generated where the back edge of the door window slid against the vertical rubber strip on the little rear window. (My car is a convertible) Using a suggestion I saw elsewhere, I put a very tiny dab of dielectric grease on my index finger and thinly spread it along the rubber strip on the rear window. Squeak was gone instantly, and there is no discernible grease streak or smudge along the back edge of the door window, where the glass contacts the rubber.
The "elsewhere" was probably my post from a while ago. Dielectric silicone grease was recommended by GM to be used on ALL weatherstripping for the last car I owned. It worked very well to protect the ws and also eliminate squeals. Doug
