Default Steering Column Rattle

I was home last week and managed to get some miles on the car without any real problems.
The only niggle is a rattle from the steering column when hitting a bump.

There is no vibration through the wheel to suggest it is coming from the road wheels or suspension, it sounds and feels like the column, I suppose with the tilt and extend mechanisims there is some scope for wear.

Are there any common problem points to check?

Hi ,
It was a common problem on early X100's but not on later cars as a revised lower column was introduced , however , if it's established that it's chatter in the lower sliding joint you can either fit a new lower column or try repacking the joint with grease ,

Hope this helps ,

Nik

That should be found quite easily, I'd take off that lower trim piece, and drive around, feeling around when you are able to locate the trouble area, then when you get back home, focus on that section. Could be as simple as the tilt motor mounting bolts have backed out.

My feeling was something like that, I was just fishing for ideas right now.
It will be a few weeks before I get home and that will be fresh from a knee surgery so I may not be poking under the dash too much.
