It's easy
Extend the wheel out as far as it will go and turn off the auto feature so it stays there. Rotate the wheel 90 degrees to get to the torx screws (4 of them if I recall right). Disconnect the battery so you don't get a face full of airbag. Disconnect the wiring from the air bag, decouple the airbag and the switches (if the connectors aren't coming apart easily look for easier ones upstream), remove the retaining nut and presto the wheel is off. It's actually pretty easy.
