Default Steering Wheel replacement/Reconditioning

I am currently looking at replacing, reconditioning my '06 steering wheel. I checked eBay, and most wheels are listed for '97-'03 XK's. Will these fit/work with an '06?
Has anyone had their wheel reconditioned in the US? I have seen reconditioned wheels for and F-Type, usually around $500. More than I want to invest in my XK.

Like you, my steering wheel is also looking sad and needs replacing or re-upholstering. I too looked at the wheels in ebay and none satisfied me. They either had small defects in the wood, small defects in the leather, or were the wrong color. I also want to upgrade to perforated leather.

I actually found an upholstery shop that is willing to recondition my steering wheel for $150 using perforated black pleather if I pull it myself. They would charge more for real leather and they also increase the labor charge if they have to remove the steering wheel themselves. I may be going this route in the coming months.

I recently installed a Wheelskins leather wrap on my '97. I've used these also on my other vehicles, and the quality is excellent. I wanted the wood portion to be covered due to the high heat here in Vegas, so the full wrap was not an issue for me ( plus it will help to preserve the wood). I used the Euro model ( two tone) .

I considered this and even had a sample mailed to me, but covering the wood to me is not acceptable. They were not willing to sell me an oversized wrap that would allow me to properly adapt to the spokes. The quality of the sample is amazing. I still keep it around because of the intoxicating smell.

I'm trying to keep wood and also the upholstery. Got one offer for wheel that might fit my '06. Will investigate after I get my Teeth Cleaned. Too bad you are not here, David.

Hi,
If it is the leather only on the steering wheel that needs re-conditioning, then I highly recommend leatherique, I've done this on three XK8's with satisfying results.

Also had nice results with seats, when I was convinced they would have needed new leather. Nice pandemic project.

All the best,

Unfortunately mine is too far gone for that to work. It has large holes in the leather and has the rubber core exposed in two sections.
