steering wheel retraction
i've seen several steering wheel memory issues on here, but i'm not sure if they are consistent with mine on my 97xk8. my up and down control works fine, but lately the retraction function when shutting the car down does notwork. however, it makes a clicking sound like the motor is still turning. any experiences like this? It doesn't impact me really as i'm tall and always kept it pretty much retracted anyway.

RE: steering wheel retraction
Try operating the reach motor manually with the joystick control...if you hear the motor running but the column remains stationary, the reach motor drive cable is broken.
Jaguar sells this cable as part of a "kit", which includes a newreach motor, for about $300.00 last time I checked. I have yet to find a reliable source for the cables separately. If you would like to purchase a good used cable and/or motor, please contact me privately by clicking on my screen name above.

I don't yet have any problems with the steering column extension/retraction and up/down adjustment. After I turn off the ignition, the steering wheel has retracted to its "exit" position, and I've removed the key, I continue to hear a clicking about once per second. If I change the steering column position switch to "off," the noise stops. I'm assuming this means that sometime in the not-too-distant future I'll need to do the repair. My question is this: in light of the symptoms described, will I need to buy a whole new upper steering column or just the motor & cable kit?
