Looking for a little help diagnosing a problem with my 2002 xk8. My wife and I recently took a trip from Houston to Vail, CO in our xk. The car performed great for the first 900 miles but as soon as we entered the mountains I noticed a strong smell of gasoline/ finger nail polish remover. We eliminated anything spills from suitcase ect... The smell was the strongest from the right rear wheel area. No visible leaks were found. I think the problem may have been the brakes but not completely convinced. Has anyone had this problem?

I had the exact same symptoms. Look for a little section of rubber hose, 2"-3" long, between the right side canister close valve and the right side evaporative canister (the black rectangular box), under the car, near the right rear wheel. These dry rot and start leaking...you should see cracks in the rubber if this is your problem. If this is it the part number NJC6068CA and it is around $8.00 at the dealer.
