Studs for water pump

Default Studs for water pump

In the course of doing some maintenance on my 2000 xkr l came across a small amount of coolant and traced it to water pump.
I had one on hand so went to work fitting it but on removing the current pump two bolts were giving me trouble.( I always use anti seize on anything threading into alloy but somebody in past didn't here)
I tried see sawing them out (turning out then in then out etc.) but they did break part way out anyway. Plenty of room there and have already drilled them out and just waiting on time sert kit to arrive in order to finalise repair.
I was seriously considering going to studs rather than the Bolts in order to avoid a repeat in the future and was curious as to whether it is commonly done or considered by others. I don't see any downside to using studs.

Studs should work. They don't use them very often because they cost more and have two installation steps.

That's true about studs, but how often are you going to change your water pump?

Baxtor is not concerned with changing the pump again. He had to drill the screws out, probably damaging the threads in the block, and is using threaded inserts. The only difficulty he may have is getting a good seal around the inserts.
