Successful!!!! Replacement for rubber seat cushion support
I was surprised to find both front seats' rubber support had split. Though after 25 yrs I should have expected it.
When I say rubber support, I'm referring to the 11 inch by 10.5 inch rubber piece that the factory suspended directly below the front seat for comfort and support. I forget the technical name.
First the fix:
I used shower pan underlayment from home depot. Its flexible, strong, and just about as stretchable as rubber. They sell adhesive specifically made for this stuff too.
I measured the old rubber mat's width including the webbing that held the metal bar and the 3 hooks on each side. I gave it 2 inches to fold back each side.
Cut 3 holes one for each hook per side (just used wire cutters), installed the bar / clips (BE SURE all HOOKS FACE SAME DIRECTION!), applied adhesive. Let it air dry 3 minutes, then fold over. Clamp between 2 pieces of wood for 12 hours. Done!
Wow, what an improvement on so many levels. Seat becomes comfortable, you feel proper alignment to seat and steering wheel. . . I'm happy to say its not just a tighter more supportive seat - its a lot more. Hell I was convinced I has bent the seatback on the right side by stretching and pressing / suspending myself against it to get my wallet so many times. Nope, it was just the unsupported seat cushion throwing my body's alignment off!
Thought you might be interested. If you want the part # just ask. 3 weeks an still feels great.
