Swapping the Odometer Board to No Effect
I burned out my instrument cluster and ECU and finally got everything repaired with an eBay ECU and cluster (the ECU had to be reprogrammed, the cluster swapped in easily because I made sure I got one that matched my VCAT). Earlier thread on how I blew these components is documented here.
Now I would like to get my odometer reading reset to the previous value. (The new cluster has 90k fewer miles, which is just dishonest and will no doubt cause insurance and DMV woes later on.) So following the advice of EricJansen in this post I swapped out the odometer circuit board. Weirdly, the odometer reading stayed the same! Now several posts from certified experts have confirmed that the odometer reading for my car (2000 XKR) is stored in the cluster (I can personally confirm that), but can anyone confirm that the odometer reading is truly stored in that little circuit board that hangs sideways perpendicular to the main cluster board, as seen in Eric's photos? I have seen that documented somewhere else before as well. But if so, then why would putting my old odometer board in the replacement cluster not change the reading? Does the value have to sync with the ECU or something? I did a hard reset, but I am still displaying the new cluster's significantly lower odo value.
Any tips, forum gurus? Thanks!

For your info, there has been some further discussion on the same matter on the XJ forum.
It seems that the early 1998 cars had them stored on the little board, but that later versions (so probably also your XK) had them stored on the main board.
While I was doing this some years ago, I actually found a guy who said he could reset the ODO at any number.
Was in the middle of the central Taiwan 2nd-hand car dealer danger zone, so I guess he know what he was talking about.
Maybe an option for you?

I believe that he managed to get the mileage reset. He's not in the US, but it might be worth dropping him a PM (he's not been on the forum for a little while) as he may be able to advise.
