Default System Check every 60 seconds?

I was recently detailing the inside of the car, and I noticed that every minute the dash lights would flash, and the message center would say "system check". I figured since the doors were open, the car was doing some type of diagnostic.

Fast forward to tonight, and I noticed the dash lights flash as I walked by. The car is in park, windows up.
I stood outside the car, and timed the lights flashing. Every 60 seconds, the car does a "system check".

Has it always done this, and I just never noticed?

Any input on the "system check"?

Thanks,

Are the keys in the ignition in the second position? I don't think it's supposed to do that. Mine doesn't. That actually worries me because I think it might deplete your battery.

It is only supposed to do that when you first turn on the ignition. It sounds like it is a wiring fault, an ignition switch fault or an instrument cluster problem.

I agree this will cause an abnormal battery drain when the car is off. if you drive the car daily though, it might be small enough to ignore.
