Default Thermostat Hsg/cooling tower hint for 2003 4.2l

We completed this task and found it reasonably easy. The hsg. unit. is 2 piece joined by O-Ring joint. Once we removed the Fan Assembly and Hoses, next step was to remove the End Plate (may need new seal?) from the Plenum. There are (4-5) 8mm heads easily accessed and this plate comes off. TIP- 5/16" socket works for 8mm also. With the plate out of way, the (4) T27 Torx head bolts holding the housing plastic stub to the engine can be removed. TIP, There are some dedicated 6" extensions with the T27 tip on E-bay cheap. We used 1/4" T27 drive socket. The socket required some angle and is not as easy as the extension would be. This extension allows access to the rear 2 bolts without having too much angle. Once the "stub" was mounted, the balance of the plastic housing (lube the o-ring) bolts to the engine on each side with 2 bolts each. The new OEM unit came with all O-rings incl. We also replaced the U & L Hoses, Water Pump, & Belt.
Job completed and leak free

when replacing the 2 rear bolts use hex head bolts instead will make removing them at a future date easier

Are you referring to the 4.2L or the 4.0L?
