Thermostat rises quickly
Hi Friends!
I have a 2000 XK8, 26,000 miles. I was wondering how fast your temp gauge rises to the midline mark, after starting, and driving slowly from a cold start? 2min., 5min., or ?
I'm asking because I notice mine rising in a matter of 2min. or less, to the midline mark, on my temp. gauge.
Also, is it possible to adjust these cars somehow, so that they don't run so hot?
Thanks for your help!

Aluminum engines, such as in your car, tend to come up to temperature quickly. This is a good thing, because engines are most efficient when they are at their running temperature.
Normal running temperature is right around 200 F. This is how the engine was designed and there is no reason to change it.
The factory gauge will sit at mid-line from 185 F to about 235 F. This is how the computer that controls the gauge is programmed. If it goes above midline you are in overheating territory and the car should not be driven to avoid damage.
