Default For those of you who'd rather have carbon fiber than wood...

...this stuff is all the rage over on the Saab forum. It's made by 3M and it's called Di-Noc. There are other brands, but the 3M stuff is supposed to be the best and most realistic. It's a vinyl "sticker" that looks like carbon fiber. It's apparently very moldable to compound curves.

It might not be for everyone's taste, but there are a few parts on my Saab that I'm going to cover. If I still owned the Jag I might be tempted to cover all of the wood bits, just to see what it looked like. It's supposed to peel off without leaving any residue.

Sam, I thought it might be interesting to have a poll.
I saw a few CF models when I was looking for the XK and I'm on the fence without seeing one in the flesh.

I have done this quite a few times to XKs, I got one in the shop at the moment that has just been done as well as a full body wrap (not in carbon)

I will post some pics up when I have reinstalled it

Couldn't vote as there was no box for 'real carbon fibre' v 'stick-on' v 'wood'?

I would not think of using stick on 'carbon fibre' but real carbon fibre is another story.
At the end of the day I think the old Jaguar wood is the best but some of the later sports models do look good with carbon fibre parts.
My Ducatis have a lot of carbon parts some original and some aftermarket. The quality is excellent and the new original parts are boxed for a future change back if I want to.

I think these need to be refined a little.

I have heard about these full body wraps but have never seen one up close other than those advert things.

What do you think of them as an alternative to paint? How do they hold up? Is it truly removable?

Thanks!

P.S. Wood

Has to be wood. Carbon fibre sounds cool, until you actually see it.

Wood is so elegant and Old World. Your eye is immediately drawn to classic, beautifully-finished wood grain, and your blood pressure drops by 30 points. Case closed....

Wood for me too.

I am old school (well just old really) and prefer my interior without chrome, with my grey paint I also prefer the original amber bodywork lenses.

Only 3 votes in the poll!

I was at a car show last year and as I was walking around looking at the cars (mostly classic cars) I ran into a man and his wife and started talking with them about the different cars.

After a bit he asked me if I had a car in the show. I said, "No I don't, but I came in that Jag over there." and pointed at it because it was parked nearby. He said, "Wow, let's go take a closer look." As we were walking towards it the wife said, "That's a beautiful car." and then the husband said, "Wait until you see that beautiful wood dash."

For me the wood dash is part of what makes a Jaguar a Jaguar. Now, I do understand in the more modern models where they are going for a different look, that the carbon dash might be a better fit, but to me for the first generation XKs wood is the way to go.

I wasn't considering that anyone might prefer to have CF plastic wrap.
