Hi Guys,
Well, I moved the coil from #2 to #4 cyl. The code ( misfire) followed the problem from 2 to 4. I bought a new coil ( not Used) and put in #4 cyl. It ran great for two days, didn't code ( restricted performance). Third day the restricted performance was back and on #2 where it started from at first. I thought that maybe because it wasn't reving over 3000rpm that the oil may have gotten into plug hole after a few days of driving over 3000rpms. I just checked the #2 plug hole and it's dry. Could there be something that damaging the coil? It has been in #2 and only cleared when I switched the coils and then 4 was coding. Any suggestions ? I think the code was P0304 #2 misfire. I erased the code before I pulled the plug and it's still all opened up. Thanks in advance for any help.

XKRs will not exceed 3000 rpm in P or N to limit damage...its designed for your engines protection from yourself.
Not sure about the codes or your misfire. What did plug No. 2 look like?
Just checked the JTIS, P0304 is A4 cylinder, Bank A is essentially, Bank 1. So, you're looking for cylinder 4, passenger side.
Looks like you were chasing the wrong cylinder. My bet is you have oil in cylinder 4.

I couldn't remember the code because I cleared it before I switched the coil. I realize it will not rev past 3000 in P or N, it's when I've tested it after I checked the Cyl. I pulled the plugs and they look fine and no oil in the plug wells. Yesterday I switched #2 with #1 ( #2 was coding) I cleared trhe code both wells were clean no oil and the car ran fine for a half hour ride, I'll take it out fore a longer cruise today and see if I get a code in #1. I'm wondering if the coils are weak and if I should just replace but the car only has 53K miles on it. It's a 99.

The car has a limiter that will prevent it from revving past 3000rpm when not in gear. As for the coil pack connections, I recently replaced the plugs in both my 2000 s-type & 1999 xk8. When I did the job I sprayed all the contacts with contact cleaner and then checked for a tight contact and applied Dielectric grease sparingly. I use this process on all plugs that I pull apart.
In order to identify the real problem you should try to capture the codes and post them.
