Default Transmission/Gearbox fault

My 97 came up with the 1722 fault last week. A clunk and then going into failsafe - 3rd gear the lowest available.

So reading here it appeared to be the A drum. I got it fixed locally with a specialist who knows these ZF boxes well. If you are in the UK, Neil Smith Automatic Transmissions in Cannock is highly recommended by me!

By the way the repair cost £1200 ($1800), they said they will never see me again with this car.

I suppose that's not too bad for internal transmission work. If he installed the improved, beefier A-drum, he's right, you won't need to go back for that issue again.

Even cheaper if you remove the gear box
