Transmission mount bushing question
97 xk8 coupe lhd American model, 71k…
so I have a question for anyone who’s been in there before, changing the common trans mount (#2 in the diagram attached). Have you also replaced the other “bushing” shown in diagram (#3 in diagram, oem part # mna7575ab)? If so was it much more work? Or better yet was it worth it? and if yes to replacing it, any thing you might remember to be aware of when doing so?
For context I ask because I am planning another big tear down for the upcoming winter months that I don’t drive the car here in western MA to finish my rear suspension/bushing/bearing redo that I stocked up parts for when doing the front, but after all that work never got around to doing the rears. And given all this time I have been collecting more parts for other upgrades/redos or fixes I’ve yet to address. My master plan and main goal is to disassemble the rear suspension, control arms and hubs etc to replace every bushing, bearing, and both shocks with the new bilstien shocks I bought a while back, as well as sway bar bushings and links, differential bracket bushings, subframe bushings, as well as more I’m forgetting, and while everything is out sandblast and repaint any control arms, brackets or anything I can. WHEW…. I know that’s a lot but it doesn’t end there…… after reading many many threads, it appears as though my best angle of attack for all this is to drop the whole rear drive section, including the differential and disconnect the driveshaft to do so, and then proceed from there…well friends that leaves me with the dilemma of removing at least part of the exhaust which has been modified by previous owners…ie welded in places that may cause me problems/ingenuity/several thousand cuss words. If that weren’t enough, I figured if I’m going that far I would replace transmission mount(hence the original question since I’ve sourced the common one) and I’ve also sourced all new exhaust gaskets including the headers/manifolds to engine as well as egr gaskets, and while at it new engine mounts I should have done when dismantling everything up front during the timing chain job. PHEW! Stay with me here…among all this, I am still looking into transmission output shaft seal, as after a fluid and filter change, and a second fluid change, I have developed a very minuscule leak at what appears to be the output shaft, as found by the few milliliters of dripped oil on my garage floor and the wetness in that area on car.
So in conclusion, I figured if I removed the rear driveline and suspension systems, disconnected or removed most if not all of the exhaust, was going to change the transmission mount and engine mounts, then this would probably be the best time to address the transmission output seals. And if all goes well I’ll cure my trans oil drip, exhaust leaks, and refresh my entire rear suspension system… did I miss anything lol?
